The site was originally set up to discuss short ideas and was only that for about 6 months. Then it got out of hand. Too many amateur shorts got involved in the site's short recommendations. The stock would move (slightly) against them and they would start panic covering. Yea--I know, I know. You say that its BS. Yet I was there and saw it happen. Hence the need for a private site. The other main reason for the private site --unstated ever, yet it was there-- was to have a disciplined group of shorts working over a stock. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Only after the pay site starting going downhill was the rates raised. Yes, I know. He did promote his private site on SI. But that wasn't the reason most (or all) other posters/SI members read the public site. The reason. Yep you know as well as I. It was for short sale analysis and sometimes it could be as good as it gets on the internet. TTT
