I was not debating Christianity with you. I was debating the Founders' attitude on religion (coupled with tolerance) as being conducive to good behavior. I was also not arguing whether or not it was true. I think it stands to reason, but it was not "in my sights". I certainly believe that morality is prior to religion, and that a concern with what is moral is a motivation for being religious, not the other way around. I have no idea if atheists are of higher character than the religious, nor vice versa, and I know of no empirical studies. I do know that there are studies of the people who saved Jews during the Holocaust, and that the majority were devout Christians, who were motivated by religion as well as a sense of humanity. This is not definitive, of course. In any event, the answer to the question "need I say more" is "Yes".........
