Good old Jonas Salk. Salk actually didn't discover the polio vaccine. The man who did, whose name I forget, offered it up free to anyone who would produce it. What Salk did figure out is how to rapidly multiply the serum. And how to manipulate public opinion in order to claim credit for a discovery that wasn't his. It's amusing to me that real discoverer of the polio cure acted with altruism.
