No argument as to the site's original purpose nor of its value. Speaking as an outsider and only based upon what was expressed on SI. But as you said, it obviously fell apart. Particularly after the net bubble burst.
Let's distinguish between his site and SI.
Amr found more opportunity in using SI as a tool to draw 600-750 per month subscriptions.
His later posts focused on scam penny/BB, thinly traded, stocks. Most would be unable to short anyway without account abroad. But it paints a clear picture. Quick, easily demonstrated results for the much smaller SI audience. And if these allegations of illicitly gaining inside info prove true, it will further show how desperate he was to regain his lost cash cow.
