Hillary's Indictment Problem -- Update

By Bob Kohn

OK, I posted on this earlier, but now it has been exactly 24 hours since Reuters published this story about Friday's indictment of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's former finance director on charges of filing false financial reports about a Hollywood fund-raising gala for the senator.

Yet, the New York Times still has not filed a story of its own on its website, and does not even have the Reuters story (nor the AP story) linked from the home page of NYTimes.com. (I can prove that, as I just PDF'd it). It looks like they are handling this one with kid gloves!

Here's what's happening: The Times must be pow-wowing with the Clintonistas on just how the mainstream press should spin the story. It is taking time because it's critical that the paper does not provide a scandalous headline that can be used by the Republican 2008 presidential candidate.
