MY 2cents as an economics major., who has never been that impressed with most macro economists. I think that besides oil and fertilizer, the main driver of inflation in the united states was the combination of labor shortages and the huge government funding of low income people and forced saving due to covid which made buying houses relatively more affordable before the fed jawboned the rise in mortgage rates. there are specific causes for this round of inflation at least in the us and other than oil I dont see it repeating. Once this summer of travel happens it will be interesting to see whether hotel rates stay up at these inflated levels. I am already seeing bits and pieces of deflation. discounts on athletic footwear. german chocolate at the . 99 store. which sold for $3 at trader joes.
