Although you specifically addressed seats at sporting events, the second half of your posting did have an all-inclusive "feel" to it.

BTW, why should we limit it to sporting events? What about the seats at the Metropolitan Opera paid for by corporations to support the opera? Yes, they pay far more as sponsors, but a "bennie" is the seats, which are sometimes used to benefit employees and sometimes used for business purposes--although the setting is entirely "social."
