China has long been a major polluter. This is not news. China has a huge dependency on coal. Coal is used by households for heating and cooking. China's major cities are thick with smog, mainly from coal.

True enough, environmental protection is a global issue. It's not Gore's responsibility to get that message out to the world. It's GWB's responsibility. We all know what he has done for the environment here in America. Why would he be compelled to speak to China about it?

By the US taking a pass on Kyota, it allows China and India to do the same. That fault would fall squarely on the shoulders of Bush and the republicans.
