Voice recognition could unleash a huge new wave of PC applications. In addition to the users you mention, there are many higher technology fields where PC's could be used if the input was faster. This includes fields like medicine where there is only minimal PC use at the doctor - patient interface today. A computer can do much of what the M.D. can do,in some cases even better, but input is too slow. The physicians brain does not have to operate at typing speed. Voice input would change this and allow doctor-computer teams for diagnosis and treatment. Many other fields involving experts would benefit as well. Unfortunately, voice recognition system that really work may be quite a way off. I tried Dragon Dictate, and it is not ready for Prime Time. I hear that IBM has the best technology.
On another subject, the more I see lists of big safe stocks, the more I am reminded of the Nifty Fifty era. The advance decline line of NASDAQ and other indicators indicate that more tech investing is going into fewer companies. Part of the wonderful ride we have had in Intel is probably due to this new nifty fifty. A lot of money managers have minimal understanding of technology, so they invest by following each other. What do you think?
