DMT's power within T1E1.4 may render the Bell Atlantic/Nynex proposal moot. At the April meeting, BellSouth Corp. also mentioned developing a CAP standard as part of its request that the committee develop standards for a variable-rate ADSL product, one that slows down or speeds up data transmission, depending on the length and condition of the line. But Philip Kyees, manager within BellSouth Science & Technology, said his company "would sit on the sidelines" of any debate over adding a CAP standard. "I just don't think it has a chance to get through T1E1.4," Kyees said.
