Jimmy Carter wore his religion on his sleeve, yet I never saw Democrats worry about him. Somehow they only fear the right is itching to impose a theocracy, for no reason I can see. Holding the occasional public prayer (perfectly in line with American tradition) as Perry recently did, makes them break out in hives. They start muttering about 'Christianists'. It's nonsense. Really. I think the greatest part of the fear is due to the cultural divide and upper-middle-class liberal snobbery against flyover country. BTW, I'm Jewish myself.
