Mindmeld, It will take 5 - 6 years before this oil will be utilized. Most of the technology is newly developed within the last two years. Chevron is currently leading the $3.5 billion Tahiti field deepwater development project on the Gulf of Mexico's Green Canyon Block 640 using a floating production platform linked to subsea systems that control the flow of oil from the wells far below. Oil from the Tahiti field is slated to start flowing to market in 2008, six years after it was discovered.
