Tom, I know you have had a tough couple of months. You got right in line behind the Harriet Miers nomination (it was a very short line, but you cheered all the way until she fell on her sword for her "best President ever"). I know you kept saying that you believed Bush could never have anyone around him who was not a "man or honor", but now we have this problem with Mr. Libby, who Fitzgerald and the grand jury believe was not a "man of honor". Like others on the thread, you can't get around the idea that perjury is perjury, and does not require a stem crime for the false tesimony to be prosecuted. You used to bet that Fitz was one of your "men of honor". Still feel that way? Remember, it appears that Rove lied to Bush...or to McLellan about his involvement. No man or honor would lie to his boss.

Oh, and Mike Brown...I know you were also behind him 100%, because GWB only appoints good people in your world. Brown (on a government domain, by the way, not private - his e-mail discussions belong to the government, hence the people) shows himself to be uninterested, incompetent and arrogant beyond belief. But you still stay with him....

It has been a tough month for you. Yes, Frist has unexplanable stock trading problems (darn those blind trusts that don't turn out to be blind at all). And Delay, still lookng for a neutral judge in Texas...all the time while his opponent in his home district makes hay. The indictment of the procurement officer got lost in the noise, but Abramaoff is still out there and he seems to cutting a wide swath among Republican legislators in Ohio and elsewhere.

If Libby does not take a plea (which I think he will), then the trial will drag into the late Spring and Summer of 06. While Fitz did not leak, the trial prep and speculation will be all over the lot....every night on the news. All bad for the Republicans.

And Rove..even Trent Lott and Lindsey Graham want him eased out. what do they call it...a housecleaning for the President. But he probably won't do it until absolutely forced....Remember, Reagan apologized for Iran/Contra (about which he was not directly involved) because it involved his administration and his appointees. The Men of Honor he had trusted. Why isn't Bush as big a man as Reagan? I liked Reagan. He had principles.

06 is right around the corner. The democrats are totally inept at campaigning and can't seem to put a story together to save their lives..but right now polls would elect them over republicans. Watch Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania...dying by the day.

And whatever happened to Jeff Gannon? Is he still in the press pool at the White House, receiving special treatment? No man of honor would allow such an individual special status. Maybe we will hear more on this later.

And through all of this the fiscally prudent Republicans spend and spend and spend, building bridges to nowhere and screaming in the Senate chamber at any suggestion of backing down from personal pork.

The war? Well...

You've had a tough month. Hang in there. But don't delude yourself that none of the above matters to Mr. and Mrs. average voter. It does.
