Well stated, Mary . This is what our Country is all. Forget all the other reasons that are offered to justify illegal acts.. Checks and balances. That is what made our country. Maintaining the delicate balance of power is the most important thing our country has to do in on going struggle to maintain our freedom. Once the Executive branch achieves unchecked powers, they will not give it up. To give up our freedom so that we can fight people who will use box cutters to find ways to hurt us, is a bad bargain. We didn't have to lose our freedom during the cold war when we were up against people who really had WMD. Our current enemies are no more dangerous than Stalin, Bezshnev, and company.
