Regarning the MCI deal. The deal sound very similar to the deal
IOMG has with Epson-Seiko. Epson both manufacturers and resells the
Zip drives for Iomega. The critical point with the Epson deal is that
they have only manufacturering rights. They do not have any rights
on the patents themselves. I would hope that the MCI deal is setup
in a similar fashion. Thus, Iomega can allow these company to help
establish the Zip standard and expand the manufacturing base with
minimal costs. If these companies do not want to play nice, Iomega
should be able to cut them off of future Zip designs (portable,
Zip200, etc...).
