2025 have become the second worst summer for fires in Canada's history, with more than 7.8M hectares burned so far.

Things have improved at both ends of the country where the worst fires are burning at this point.

In BC, an unusual for August November style storm dropped 50-80mm of rain over 2 days, literally dampening the most threatening fores on Vancouver Island, but there are still many evacuation orders and alerts in effect, with the hot weather returning later this week.

They also got some rain out east in the Maritimes over the weekend, but much less, so almost all the evacuations are still in effect.

I heard an interesting interview with a Newfoundland-based meteorologist describing how the nature of summers on The Rock has significantly changed over the last few decades, with unprecedented droughts and heat waves kicking up the fire danger.
