It seems to me that the analogy is not apt. If the crash of '87 was caused by "market insurance" and did not indicate a change in fundamentals, it seems to me that crash offered opportunity rather than threat ! While HFT might exaggerate volatility, I cannot see that volatility having any lasting affects upon fundamentals.

His talk about "correlation" suggests to me that HFT takes its cue's from the market, e.g. CS is sold and driven down because the market is down. Suits me ! I think I would rather seek profits in volatility..... especially short term profits... buy low,,, sell when they are higher !..... rinse and repeat !
