Not so. Kennedy did not have Hodgkin's, he had Addison's disease. mhhe.com
I believe that the treatment of the time, corticoids, would have ultimately killed him by destroying either his liver or kidneys. That might explain the "fatalistic and bitter" demeanor that you assert. Any M.D.'s out there?

Kennedy, in contrast to the "vigor" PR deception, had always been a very sickly person and spent much of his youth bedridden. In actuality JFK1 was just about the least vigorous President in history.

The back problem was unrelated to Addison's.

Interesting historical footnote: I have read that Kennedy remained so erect after being shot because he was wearing a back brace that fateful day.
