Kennedy, in contrast to the "vigor" PR deception, had always been a very sickly person and spent much of his youth bedridden. In actuality JFK1 was just about the least vigorous President in history. The back problem was unrelated to Addison's. Interesting historical footnote: I have read that Kennedy remained so erect after being shot because he was wearing a back brace that fateful day.
