No, I am not regarding homosexuality in a moral light at all. But just as I am getting beaten over the head with illegitimate analogies to racial prejudice, I think that complete normalization of homosexuality would lead to a new pc drive to render indifferent most moral judgments about sexual behavior, by comparing those with inclinations towards, for example, promiscuity to homosexuals, and arguing that they have irresistible impulses, or, in any event, that sex is purely private. Now, I do not propose criminalizing promiscuity, but I do think that the informal pressure against it that society exerts should not be further eroded, as it inimical to the formation of durable relationships.
To put it another way, if we go against the reasonable view that homosexuality is maladaptive, and therefore inferior to heterosexuality, even if it harmless enough that there is no compelling state interest in legislating against it, we undermine the ability to hold other reasonable views, by extending pc condemnation too far. We erode the ability, in this instance, to uphold social standards in respect of sexual behavior, for example, standards against predatory seduction, or increasingly young initiation into sex.
This is were the pedophilia issue comes in. If we stop being concerned about exploitation of naivete, and if we start to accept the idea that it is no big deal for pubescent children to have sex, than we will not be far from condoning pedophilia. That is further down the slope, and not a direct consequence of accepting homosexual marriage, to be sure, but we do not need complete loosening of constraints........ |
