NZ$ at US71c is grossly over-valued despite the obvious problems in the USA economy. NZ's debt-based economy is holding up simply because interest rates were so high and now that they have halved, people are feeling less broke. Japanese rolled over their uridashi because a bit of interest payment was better than nothing and they have not understood the lack of foundations in NZ's financial situation.

They should have a look at the NZ government's deficits to see how things are likely to go. Also, consider the trends over the decades.

Borrow and hope is not a good financial solution to loss of income. Getting another job is a better idea.
