Here's a theory:

S3 opened down a bunch on 1000 shares. This tells me that the MM wanted it down.

Why? Perhaps MM has a large client or two who want to load up on shares at a lower price before allowing it to drift to it's natural level. There have been almost 450,000 shares traded in blocks of at least 10,000 between 1150 and 1300 - all in the range 17.875 to 18. Someone is buying a lot of shares at this level.
