Fed Buys Mortgages
11/28/2007 12:10 PM EST

Earlier today when the Fed announced that it was conducting $8 billion of so-called term-repurchase agreements, it did so by purchasing mortgage securities only -- no Treasuries.
This means that the repurchase agreement, which extends out to Jan. 10, removes $8 billion of mortgage securities from dealer inventories until Jan. 10. This provides a modicum of relief to the Street, given the distaste for mortgage securities recently.
