I do find it a bit odd that you cite ASCII as an international standard given that:

- the "A" in ASCII stands for "American". The full acronym: American Standard Code for Information Interchange.

- the only two languages in the world that the ASCII character set (bytes 0 - 127) can adequately represent are English and Hawaiian.

Perhaps you should hire a research assistant? Or at least first run your posts by Charles Tutt whose reputation for meticulously researched posts is legendary?

And as a former ISDN customer, I really can't find much to praise about that clunky standard. Except at 30 odd years on, it can, like fine wine, make claim to a certain maturity...
