Sean,

Though I have yet to pick up my copy of Caldera 2.2 and try it, a typical commercial Linux install has a GUI set-up then on first reboot puts you at a command line log-in.
You now have to execute the commands to log-in then start the GUI setup routine.

At this point, what 40%? 60%? 80%? of new Linux users are left staring at there 'puters, lost and dead in the water, assuming that they made it this far. The previous set of questions they had to answer were already far from non-technical.

Caldera 2.2 and the future Corel Linux are/will seek to remove the necessity of the command line, to make Linux a GUI experience entirely (as is NT, where you have the option of a command line but pretty much anyone could put the NT cd in and follow the on screen instructions and end up in the NT GUI ready to explore).

There is a consensus that for Linux to reach critical mass it needs to be an attractive choice on the desktop. Microsoft has amply demonstrated the synergistic opportunities of an integrated desktop / application / server / development environment. Linux (Unix,C++) already has acknowledgement in the development / server areas, yet is still working toward desktop / application acceptance. A stated goal of Corel and now Caldera (and others) is to make the install / operation as potentially easy as a BE OS or NT/98 or Mac OS experience.

Was that the long-winded redundant answer you were looking for?

:)

Hey Sean how does your Quote.com suggestion stack up against RealTick III?
