I started with $90K and could've done fine with less. I think $50K is adequate but much depends on the individuals finances. I paid off my mortgage and had no debt of any kind. That makes for an easier time initially if one loses some $$$.

It doesn't cause people to overtrade, rather, it's all about discipline. No one ever put a gun to my head to trade once I went full time 4 years ago. I find the less I trade the better I do, mainly because I enter what I feel are higher probability trades by being more selective.
