Hadn't Lehmann rented the Dodge? If so, presumably the suitcase was his. Perhaps he'd planned to spend a few days with Chalem in Kimberly's absence. But why would he have rented a car? He lived on Long Island, not in the city, and so would have had had to have had one of his own.

Elsewhere...I checked the Monmouth County Recorder's Office. Unfortunately their records aren't online. They might have been quite interesting...
