3D Multimedia Accelerator Receives Awards and Praise From Top Industry Publications
The early reviews are in and Velocity 3D, STB Systems's (NASDAQ: STBI) new multimedia accelerator is already filling the trophy case. PC Magazine and PC World, the leading computer magazines for consumers at home and business; and Computer Reseller News, the leading magazine for computer resellers & integrators, have all given major awards to the Velocity 3D or to systems that integrate the Velocity 3D as their video solution.
Rave Reviews
In the Feb. 4, 1997, issue of PC Magazine, the Gateway P55C-200FPC featuring the Velocity 3D was awarded the PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award in a review of the industry's first Intel Pentium-based systems to feature MMX technology. Despite facing formidable competition from Diamond Multimedia Systems' Stealth 3D 2000 and Matrox Millennium accelerators, the Velocity 3D's performance put it in a class of its own. PC Magazine called the test results, which were recorded using Ziff Davis' Graphics Winmark 97 test suite, "stunning". According to the magazine's editorial review, "Powered by an STB Velocity 3D graphics engine, the system posted an astronomical score that put it 51 percent ahead of the nearest home PC competitor."
In the February issue of PC World, the Velocity 3D earned the PC World Best Buy Award and was ranked number one in the monthly Top 10 Graphics Boards review. This is the second consecutive time an STB video card has debuted at number one on the PC World Top 10 Graphics Board list, after STB's LightSpeed 128 earned that distinction in August of 1996.
At Fall Comdex in Las Vegas, Computer Reseller News (CRN) tested the Velocity 3D live on the show floor, and both editors and spectators were impressed by the performance of this powerful new accelerator. CRN awarded the Velocity 3D its Comdex Test Center Recommended Product Scale, as was reported in the CRN December 23/30 issue.
"We are also very pleased that the Velocity 3D helped Gateway win the PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award," said John Gunn, Director of Marketing at STB Systems. "The PC World Best Buy award and the Computer Reseller News Recommended Product Award were outstanding achievements, but the results in the PC Magazine system review demonstrates STB's leadership position in PC video and graphics performance."
Other publications and industry watchers have also given the Velocity 3D rave reviews. In Windows Sources magazine's review of MMX systems, the Gateway P55C-200 Family PC featuring the Velocity 3D took top honors in the Business Graphics Winmark 97.
The February issue of boot Magazine praised the Velocity 3D, saying, "Overall, the Velocity 3D was faster than the [Diamond Multimedia Systems] Stealth 3D 3000 XL by as many as 6 million pixels per second (at 1280x1024, 8-bit color depth) during Windows 2D application tests."
"We were very pleased to see STB named as the 'Graphics Company Most Likely to Succeed' in a report published recently by noted industry analysts Jon Peddie," added STB's Gunn. "That distinction, along with the outstanding reviews for the Velocity 3D in these other respected industry publications, is a great way to start off 1997."
