Kim Jong-il was well known as a playboy before, especially when his dad was alive. but after his dad croaked he realized he would need to consolidate power or risk a coup d'etat. so he has probably toned down the partying somewhat. now he is just a "peerlessly great man".

i have a Japanese book on Kim Jong-il that tells the real story of what a fark-up he is. the interesting thing about this book is, it was originally written in Korean, but then its publication in South Korea was forbidden (there is a huge amount of propaganda in favor of the peerlessly great man down there, and the book had the bad timing of colliding with the South's "Sunshine Policy", a sort of ill-fated South Korean attempt at "warming" relations with the North that has accomplished nothing besides winning a Nobel Peace prize for its champion, Kim Dae Jung. the latest nuke testing in the North is proof that the Sunshine Policy is dead).

anyway, the author couldn't get this book on Kim Jong-Il published in South Korea, so he had it translated into Japanese and published it there. it is a sort of catalogue raisonne of Kim's many, many crimes. Koreans find this book extremely interesting since it is contraband in South Korea, a supposedly "free" country.
