Brian: What power supplies are you talking about? Fuel cell power plants generate electricity (I presume you know at least this,) they don't need outside power to operate. Furthermore, because Ballard's plants run too cool to separate out the pure hydrogen they need from the natural gas, they require a bunch of extra equipment to do that job (called "reforming.")

ERC's design is a direct fuel cell - no reforming equipment is needed because the operating temperature is hot enough to do that internally. And that heat allows cogeneration gains of electricity, heating or air conditioning, all of which gives the design an efficiency level that leaves Ballard's design way behind.

Of course ERC's plant is physically larger, but that is because it produces two to three megawatts, not one tenth that amount, as do Ballard's. At which type of corner store were you thinking that Ballard would sell its units?
