FAIRFAX, Va., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Manus C. Kraff, MD, of Chicago, Illinois, has been chosen by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery to deliver the 1998 Innovators Medal Lecture at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery's Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.
Each year, ASCRS awards the Innovator's Medal to an ophthalmologist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of ophthalmology. The lecture and medal were established in 1985; its recipients include some of the world's most renowned pioneers in cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. Kraff is being honored for his tremendous contributions to ophthalmic education during his 18-year tenure as the ASCRS Program Chairman. Under his leadership, the meeting has grown from a small "niche" meeting with fewer than 400 registrants to the world's largest ophthalmologic meeting devoted to anterior segment surgery. Over 5,000 ophthalmologists, administrators, and clinical/surgical staff now attend the annual symposium.
For over 30 years Dr. Kraff has provided state-of-the-art ophthalmology services through the Kraff Eye Institute, with offices in the Downtown Loop and Addison Heights. Among his numerous achievements, he is a Past President of ASCRS and a former Board Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kraff will deliver his lecture, entitled "The Evolution of a Major Ophthalmologic Symposium" on Monday, April 7, 1998 at 11:30 am in the San Diego Convention Center's 6A Ballroom.
