Why is taxing income a better approach to tax revenues than taxing assets?

I think property taxes (and a wealth tax) is a better way to raise money than a tax on transactions (income, sales, etc.).
Asset rich people would pay most of the taxes. High earners would receive their payments tax free, but holding onto their cash or investing it in assets would result in them having to pay an annual tax reflective of their assets value.
