One example of "tribute" is cheap goods from China and other Asian countries. We get cheap goods from China etc. because the Pax Americana makes oil cheap.

We own the world's reserve currency. That's part of our hegemony. However, China and Asia are not in any sense within "our" borders or subject to our rule.

An empire has borders. Please describe ours.

If you don't believe me, ask Osama Bin Laden.

I don't use him for instruction in geopolitics.
