I promised marcos that I would come back to his post, so here goes...

Issues more or less directly derived from what I said would include a renewed federalism (greater tendency to leave things to the states); less of a tendency to buffer immigrants against pressures to assimilate; a renewed commitment to defense; an emphasis on values- based programs for those needing special help, like addicts; a less aggressive stance towards public displays of traditional observances; a phasing out of certain affirmative action practices, like goals and timetables, which implicitly become quotas, and "race norming", which lowers standards for minorities; a favorable attitude towards school vouchers, to allow parents more choice in their children's education; a tightening of divorce laws, at least when there are children involved; and other such things.......
