Let me be a little clearer on this. There are technologies being developed that provide a "framework" for business objects. This framework consists of all the things neccessary for supporting data transfer between different business objects. Now if you build your business components for this type of framework you get the ability to have different components from different vendors talking to each other. This is the direction of the industry, in my opinion. No single company today (Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft, etc.) provide a "single-vendor" solution. It's better to have a way for you to pick the best software from the best vendor and have them work together. The "frameworks" projects being developed will enable this.

The example of Oracle working with SAP is not anywhere near happening today. It was simply an example of what is down the road with technology such as the San Francisco project (and there are other similar projects).

Do you know anything about applications?

Yes, having written component software for the last 10 years or so.

Cheers,
Steve
