Of course it matters.........it matters very much.
If there was evidence Zimmerman started the fight you are correct - his lawyers would have then used the SYG law to defend him - but they aren't using SYG because no one has evidence who started the fight. You can't convict someone without evidence - and in this case all the evidence supports Zimmerman's accounts of what occurred.
