Under Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law, it really doesn’t matter who started the fight; it only matters if the person who survives the fight can say without contradiction that he was in fear for his life or safety. That law states:
I disagree. SYG specifically states: "A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity ..."

A person who starts a fight, is engaged in an unlawful activity. If it can be proven that Zimmerman started the fight by unlawfully assaulting Martin, then SYG would probably not be allowed as a defense.

However in this case, the evidence is overwhelming that Martin started the fight by criminally assaulting Zimmerman.
