CPQ Down, But Coming Back Scott Greenberg
Nov 19 1999

Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ): The world's biggest maker of personal
computers announced today it will provide e-commerce services worldwide in
a five-year agreement valued at $500 million with the U.K.'s Cable &
Wireless Plc CWP. To regain momentum, Compaq must confront the
declining average selling price of PC's and fierce competition from Dell and
Gateway with better manufacturing and distribution along with new products
like the iPAQ.

The faulty vision and divided leadership of Eckhard Pfeiffer and Earl Mason
have been replaced by a high quality vision from Ben Rosen and Michael
Capellas.

Compaq is off more than 50% from a year ago, yet the earnings forecasts
will be more easily achieved, the integration of Digital is complete, the inept
leadership has been removed, exciting new products are being released, and
distribution channels are being brought up to internet speed to reduce
inventory backlog. Look for a double in 12 months.
