Watching Chinese in Beijing building scaffolding and buildings, they were doing it much as we did back in the day. But unlike us, they don't actually put the reinforcing steel in the concrete judging by the building that fell over exposing the lack of foundations.

It was just teetering on flimsy concrete and the ground. When it got a chance, it simply fell over.

A new road heading north from Beijing was built to the same standards, with deep heavy truck grooves in the road. It looked as though it was just a few months old. Maybe they just put half an inch of hotmix over an inch of gravel spread smoothly over the surface of the ground.

They put melamine in the milk, lead and cadmium in children's toys and anything up the smokestack.
