UMC will post a profit of NT$170 million through the deal, he added What is your take on this sale? It sounds to me like UMC is finding a way to raise cash to finance their investments in cutting edge technology and making a profit in the process. While it may reduce their total capacity somewhat in the near term, it shifts more of their production to lower cost/higher margin technology. That should be a long-term positive. It also gives some indication of the strong demand for semiconductor production capacity. Baird
