Advanced Micro Devices Inc. today launched a suite of new notebook PC microprocessors, attempting to gain more market share against Intel Corp.
AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif., released three new notebook chips in each of its K6-2 and K6-III families. The company shipped 450-, 433-, and 433-MHz versions of its low-power K6-III-P chips, while debuting faster 475-, 450-, and 433-MHz versions of its low-power K6-2-P chip.
The 450-MHz K6-III-P is priced at $320, while the 433-MHz version is $283, and the 400-MHz processor is $246. The 475-MHz K6-2-P is priced at $209, while the 450-MHz version is $189, and the 433-MHz chip is $159. All quantities are in 1,000s.
AMD's introduction follows a similar launch by Intel Corp. last week, when the company announced 466- and 433-MHz mobile Celeron processors, available in BGA, PGA, and mobile module packages. In 1,000s, Intel's chips are priced at $209 and $159, respectively, in BGA packages. ebnews.com
