David Lawrence: These message boards are a lot like reading a book where you get to imagine. The big difference is the author does not get to build a description of what a particular alias looks like are set the characters personality. We have to conjure up an image of who is behind any given alias strictly by their written words, with a few exceptions. (Those folks that are inclined to not only share their real name, but their photo as well.)

I suspect most of the folks I've communicated with over the years on these message boards do not resemble the image I have of them in my mind, but that's ok, that is half the fun. I know SI Bob does not look anything like I imagined him to look, prior to seeing his photo.
