"These devices are among the most reliable and fault-tolerant ATM switches available" Because the Zoetrope project was conceived as a collaborative effort involving NTT and Silicon Graphics, planning and development of the system was conducted in both Japan and the United States. It was important for the ATM networking solutions vendor to also have operations on both sides of the Pacific in order to work closely with both NTT and Silicon Graphics.
With permanent offices in Tokyo as well as in California, FORE's Asia/Pacific and U.S. personnel were able to step in immediately and collaborate with NTT engineers in Japan and SGI systems developers in Silicon Valley."
