Someone asked where I thought the thread stood politically now. The thread is MUCH more partisan than I intended from the beginning, but I asked a few weeks ago if anyone wanted me to change that and no one replied publicly or via PM. Dale, if you wish to have a thread consisting of only folk with "centrist" political convictions, much as LindyBill has only rightwingers, then I should depart. I'm not a centrist, certainly not as it is understood today. It's moved much too far to the right for my political convictions. I'm convinced foreign policy should be multilateral, that the "war on terror" is far more an ideological struggle than a military one, that abortion issues are about women's rights, that opposition to gay marriage is the most recent incarnation of bigotry, that our cities require great gobs of money infusions to correct infrastructure losses including education, that global warming is one of those unaddressed issues we will all regret not addressing ten years down the road, that we have to find ways to correct the rapidly growing gap between the rich and the poor, and so on. I'm happy to argue those on their merits but they don't add up to a Lieberman kind of Democratic centrism.
