Fair is fair. Since I gave Frank permission :) to keep EMC in his portfolio, you might want to add Inktomi to yours. Someone mentioned earlier this evening about looking for an Internet company with a proprietary architecture. Inktomi fits that bill with one for a storage cache and one for a search engine.

NEON (not to be confused with Neon Systems which IPOd recently) would also be one worth considering. It's one of the great middleware companies I wish I'd bought. A lot of the middleware companies are still privately held, though, so I don't have the slightest idea which are the true leaders. It's interesting that some of the middleware biz is based on riding what I hope will be the forthcoming best of breed front office tornado; one function of the middleware is to connect front office software to back office software.
