I don't see the advantage to selling direct ONLY. When you consider that 50% of the HH in the US still don't even have a PC, there still has to be outlets which they can go to in order to consider purchases. Even if you consider telephone ordering as a mode to reach these people, how many WILL order by phone? I'd venture a guess that the fact they don't have a PC would indicate they are still focussed on Old-World purchasing methods.....
Secondly, you still need store relationships. Everything that is currently occurring in ecommerce indicates that the (very bad) cliche of "clicks and mortar" means more sales.
Finally, the fact that AAPL is growing so rapidly and they sell both direct and thru CompUSA is CLEARLY an indication that both avenues represent valid revenue streams.

What the analysts are whining about is that they still don't get the new economic models that are being developed. I can say that with very strong commitment because I just had one of these analysts in my office asking questions about ecommerce. His questions were so vapid, it left me speechless.

If you review my posts on other threads, I've long been critical of analysts. I've met/known too many. I'm glad I didn't enter the field. They failed in other areas, so they figured they'd make a buck this way. As I always say - there's job for everybody.
