Blogs for Bush - A President Who Cares About The Troops
President Bush campaigned in Maine today, and made a surprise visit to troops on their way to Iraq.

Bush delayed his departure for Washington so he could visit and shake hands with nearly 300 soldiers whose plane was refueling in Maine en route to Iraq. Bush walked through the plane and shook hands, signed autographs and chatted with the troops, who were from two National Guard units and a reserve unit in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"I appreciate being president to such fine men and women, God bless you all. God Keep you safe," Bush said over the plane's public address system shortly before he departed.

Staff Sgt. Juan Rodriguez-Savao said the soldiers, who flew in from Fort Bragg, N.C., were surprised by the visit.

He said they knew Bush was in Bangor and had hopes to see Air Force One on the tarmac. "That he would be here and wish us Godspeed. That really means a lot," Rodriguez-Savao said.

I heard some audio of Bush's talk to the soldiers. He got an enthusiastic response. I can't imagine what it must have been like for the soldiers to be visited by their Commander-In-Chief just before going to serve their country.
