I have noticed that the MMs will push a stock down that has been flat for several months just before a big piece of positive news (look at the way they dropped XCIT several weeks ago as an example) and vice versa for bad news. Getting a little greedy I guess.

You can sometimes tell this is happening if you see small lots 100 to 400 shares moving the market in one direction and then a large (e.g. 10,000 share) lot comes in at the opposite side and only moves the market a little or not at all.
