I'm actually skeptical of ASPs at the current time. Look at it this way: is ANY ISP, be it cablemodem, dial-up, or DSL, reliable enough to rely on for your critical applications? I can picture it now, "I can't get to my wordprocessor to complete my term paper, the network is down." Or how about, "No I can't calculate the new numbers for you, I can't get to my spreadsheet, the network isn't available." I've been an early adopter of every ISP technology since '88 or so and even the things that have been around awhile aren't reliable enough to allow for critical apps to be provided by a 3rd party over the internet. We're just not there yet and I think it will be a while before we are. I'm not saying there won't be a point when it will actually work though, your connection will just have to be as reliable as a dial-tone is now for it to work.
NOT! The names may change (ASP, CSP, whatever) but the concept is still very valid IMO. Bandwidth will get exponentially larger and cheaper.
