Leading Independent Lab Tests Giant King Grass for Customer in India

IRVINE, Calif., Sept 21, 2010
VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC), a clean energy company growing Giant King(TM) Grass as a low-carbon, renewable biomass crop, reported that Giant King Grass has been tested by a world leading testing and verification company. Samples were provided by VIASPACE to a potential customer in India that is considering Giant King Grass as fuel for a power plant to generate electricity. The customer submitted the sample to the Indian branch of the testing company for independent analysis of energy content including proximate analysis, ultimate analysis and ash analysis.
The energy content of Giant King Grass was found to be 4350 kcal per kilogram which is equal to 7830 BTU per pound or 18.2 MJ per kilogram (higher heating value and bone dry).

VIASPACE CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen commented that: "The energy content of Giant King Grass has been verified to be excellent-- equal to or better than other grasses like switchgrass or miscanthus. The major advantage of Giant King Grass is its low cost which results from its extremely high yield. Although it is not a fair comparison because Giant King Grass only grows in warm areas, whereas switchgrass grows in areas where it freezes, Giant King Grass has at least four times the biomass yield per acre of land. This means you can generate much more electricity or biofuel from a given acre of land. This is an environmental advantage as well as a cost advantage."

VIASPACE (and its subsidiary VIASPACE Green Energy) have provided samples to qualified potential partners and customers for their own testing as part of their due diligence. Kukkonen continued, "There have now been a number of independent third party tests of Giant King Grass and the results are all consistently good."

Giant King Grass is a non-food energy crop that can grow on marginal lands that are not used for agriculture, and does not compete with food production. It is carbon neutral because the plants breathe equal amounts of carbon dioxide to that emitted when they are burned.
