HArry,...cpq never had a mainframe to run a multibillion $ corp. I along with others at cpq invented a way to keep it on mini's til micros and servers could do it.. one mf cost 6mm. just the cooling system to run a mf house cost more than most mini systems.. Hp has a risc based hp 3000 box.. that is waht we used. I invented the way to distribute the MRPII systems across mini's in 1989... I was in my prayer closet and God gave me the answer... as our HP system was about to meltdown... what a bonus I got that yrs. It would have been a shame to go that long 83-88 on mini's just to admit defeat at last second. Or, break up things to where it wasn't cost effective.
